Our Story
Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, 5812 Investment Group (formerly Van Vliet Real Estate Companies) is a privately held real estate investment firm specializing in acquisition, reposition and management of distressed multi-family assets across the United States. With a strategic focus on naturally occurring affordable workforce housing, we’ve successfully transformed over 16,000 units in markets including Minnesota, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Arizona, California, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Iowa.
Led by founder George Van Vliet, whose 46 years of experience in the multi-family sector bring unmatched insight and access, 5812 has earned a reputation for navigating complex market cycles with agility, precision, and operational excellence.

We differentiate ourselves through a unique combination of expertise, discipline, and strategic relationships:

This disciplined approach consistently delivers above-market occupancy, rent growth, and collections.
Consistency
During the 2008 financial crisis, our portfolio, acquired at occupancy levels between 73% and 90%, maintained an average 95%+ occupancy, even as market averages dropped into the low 80s. This performance underscores the strength of our sponsorship and the resilience of our operational platform.

A shared commitment to integrity, respect, growth, and service defines how we build thriving communities.
